Waterbox Technology
GLAC utilizes Waterbox technology as part of its smart water solutions to support tree growth in arid and challenging environments. Designed specifically for dry and degraded areas, the Waterbox enables the cultivation of local and native trees by mimicking natural ecosystems and optimizing water use.
This innovative solution functions as a self-sustaining plant incubator, shielding saplings and the surrounding soil from harsh sunlight while delivering a consistent water supply. The device—a polypropylene container with a lid—collects moisture through rainwater and condensation, which is stored in an internal reservoir.
A wick system beneath the Waterbox gradually releases small amounts of water (approximately 50 ml per day) into the soil through capillary action, promoting deep root development. This process ensures young trees can access underground moisture, even in conditions where water is present but unreachable for small roots.
By applying biomimicry principles, Waterbox technology contributes significantly to reforestation, desert greening, and vegetation restoration, making previously unviable land productive and sustainable once again.
